Zoey turns...6?

Okay, so honestly  Zoey's birthday was meant to be a fiasco. First, it came too early. Usually we have it in September. However, this year it came earlier than usual since Labor Day was on Sept. 2. Then you have the issue with Mother Nature -- after a nice cool, wet July into August, we were dry and hot, hot, hot going into September.

Regardless, here are some shots in the sticky weather:

Question: Why didn't Jack have shots like these?
Answer: 'Cuz I didn't get to the park in time. Had I actually gotten there 15 minutes early - like expected - I would have coaxed him into shots.

We were lucky enough to be able to move it into the hotel lobby of Kaki and Papa Gary's hotel.  Note the FAB decor!

It was still fun, and thanks to AC, a cool party, too!

Jack turns...8?

Who said that he could turn 8? Certainly not I!

Regardless, Jack's birthday party finally arrived -- we tossed ideas back and forward for weeks before he finally opted for a "Despicable Me" party. However, this really only means that the balloons were minion-themed as was the cake.

Yup. That's just how we roll.

Anyway, taking pictures of a one-sided minion was comical to say the least:

Yup. Fun times.

But hey, at least we got to go to the park! For Zoey's birthday it was anything but nice. In fact, it was something like 35 degrees warmer!

He had a blast with the gifts, especially the vintage "Star Wars" toys from Trav's youth:

We are so honored that he was able to celebrate his eighth year with such a loving family!

Yup - this is what Jack picked out!

Isn't it fun?

Speaking of fun, one of the perks of being outside is having room to RUN!!!

On a side note, I never thought that the day would come that my baby would grow up:

Zoey and the painting

Look! I can do more than just make lists!

Lessons from a trip to the Sunflower Field

1. August is hot.
2. When it's hot, kids don't want to get out of the car.
3. When it's hot, kids don't want to take pictures in front of said sunflowers.
4. Bees like sunflowers, too.
5. My kids don't like bees.
6. Bring a step ladder. Trust me.
7. The guy who ventured into the middle of the Sunflower field puts me in a weird place. On one hand, I'm impressed by his tenacity to crawl through the thick, itchy, bee-infested sunflowers. On the other hand, Dude ruined my shot.
8. Hay bales are great when kids stand on them. Not so much for adults.
9. Sunflowers wilt quickly in August heat. Just sayin'.
10. Seeing a sunflower field is like the first time you see the ocean - you stand in awe at the field's beauty.

Conclusion: If you're going to see a sunflower field, do it sooner than later and prepare to be sweaty!
