White stuff? In March?

Well, it snowed! It was far from the huge 10+ inches expected though. The temperatures warmed a bit more than expected so it rained until Saturday morning when it switched over to FREEZING rain and sleet. Finally in the afternoon it switched over to a cold, very wet snow.

Four inches of it, actually.

Needless to stay, it was a great day for chili and cookie baking! Sam and Nate were in town, so they helped out while Trav was at work.

Here's a glimpse of some lovely freezing rain:

When Trav returned home, we made our way to a Chinese buffet for dinner and decided to spend some time outside in the snow until bedtime.

*FUNNY STORY MOMENT*

So, when we got home for the restaurant, we told Jack to get his snow suit. Trav and I went into our room to put on warmer clothes, and Jack barged in holding his swimming trunks. He thought we said SWIMMING suit, not snow suit.

Anyway, we spent a little time around the house:

And then made our way through the 4 inches of snow to the campus of a nearby college - a 3 block walk.

Yeah, we were crazy.

And yes, it was still snowing - hard.

We did have fun going sledding; only one other family was there sledding too.

We also made snow angels....

But we really spent most of the time going up and down that hill!

This is why you wear hats when it's snowing.

Here are a few images from around our area:

The next morning, the snow had stopped and the sun was out. The tree in our backyard looked amazing:

We cleared off Sam and Nate's car:

And took more pictures!

Amazingly, the snow is now basically gone. It was nearly 50 degrees today and very sunny, so you can understand why all the snow melted! Other parts of Kansas west of here received more than 20 inches of snow and others nearly 3 inches of ice. CRAZY!!

Snow Storm!

I. Can't. Believe. It.

Snow scheduled for this weekend seems to be right on track for a major snowstorm - at least 6 inches in our area. That's nearly double the entire snow we've received all winter!

I actually can believe it - I remember one spring break when it rained for 2 days before dumping 8-10 inches of snow on us. That was in March 1998. That was incredible.

Sam and Nate are visiting this weekend, so I think that tomorrow would be an excellent day to play outside, bake cookies and have fun.

Unfortunately for us, Trav works. However, they may cancel that shift due to snow. Who knows though. If I know Trav, I know that he would conquer an ice storm if it meant getting to work. His work ethic is incredible. I don't know that much about anyone else who is working tomorrow though....

Anyone! That means that I'm going to have updated snow pictures!! WOOO! Stay tuned...

----> NEED HELP HERE <-----

First of all, it may snow this weekend. And yeah, I'm not kidding. You would think I am, considering it's been 80 degrees these past few weeks, but I'm not.

-NOW for the reason I need your help -

I have a terrible memory, so if you know me I need your help! I'm entering an essay (okay, 100 words) contest where I detail my funniest unlucky moment.

Can you think of any of them that were just hillarious?

I can vaguely remember some, but I can't only remember the laughing part. You know, telling the story to other people and laughing later about it? I just can remember the laughing part.

Right now, here are the things I can think about:

- Jack using the curtain to clean up his spaghetti, spilling bleach all over the entry way
- Going to a job interview and lactating through my blazer
- ...

I'm sure there are more, but I really need some help remembering. I know this is a longshot, but if you can remember ANYTHING bad that happened but ended up being really funny, I would really appreciate that!!

Meanwhile, I'm going to find my favorite humor book and gain some inspiration. Maybe something will come to my snot-filled brain.

Thanks for trying!

Just an average evening

So, I thought it would be nice to take it slow this evening (after cleaning the bedrooms this afternoon!), and the kids thought it would be nice to sit together, eat snacks together and yes, even drink together.

Zoey is just getting over a cold and Jack is in the middle of one, so having happy kids is a true blessing!

I have so many pictures to post that it's not even funny, but we'll see how far I get. I have a lot to do this week, so I'll try to get to it all!

Hmmm...Interesting...

I have plenty of pictures coming sometime in the next few days, so be patient! Zoey has a virus at the moment which makes it incredibly fun to spend time on anything but her. All she wants to do is read. Whatever works!

Anyway, so Cousin Audrey turned one last week and went to the doctor for a 12 month check up. We were all dicussing how she compared to my kiddos in weight/length!

Well, here's what I dug up in a comparison:

Stephanie McCart

I don't know who exactly reads this blog. I assume I know most of you at least.

Today was a great day, really. The kids were great, Audrey's birthday was great and every thing was falling together.

Until my mom called to tell me some news.

Stephanie McCart, one of my sister's best friends, passed away in a car accident. I don't know if it happened over the weekend or many details. All I know is that she was in the back seat sleeping when it happened.

Punch. To. The. Gut.

Steph and Sam grew up together starting in day care, I believe. Starting in grade school, she became like a second sister. She even called my mom, "Mom." She really WAS like a sister.

So, even if you didn't know her that well, please keep Stephanie's family and friends in your prayers as they cope with her sudden loss. It's this sort of event that can shake faith to the core only to build it stronger.

I don't know if I'm going to the funeral or not. It's Wednesday, and I'll see. I'm still in shock at the moment.

Surviving the Unexpected

Okay, so that's a bit dramatic. Basically, this morning we had our normal routine on Saturdays that Trav works.

Get up at 8:00.
Play until 8:30.
Eat breakfast until 9:15 (which is overdue, but the visitors put a snag in our schedule)

I opened the curtains to the living room, which looks out to the pool. On the pool I saw these visitors:

At first I was like, "OHMIGOSH! Duckies!!"

And after taking a few pictures, I was like, "ewwwwwwwwwww...duck poop. GET AWAY!!"

Considering they've never been here before and it just so happened less than 48 hours after destroyed our rubber duck, is this revenge? Oooo creepy. I was scared for a while to kill spiders in fear that they would all seek revenge for their fallen comrade. Apparently these ducks were seeking revenge by pooping on our pool cover.

After banging on the window, they flew away. I'll give you updates if they decide to return.

I have a feeling this day is going to be exciting...today is Audrey's FIRST birthday party, which is going to be fun. Here's to BOTH kids not doing the gift opening for her...

And for those wondering, I'm NOT as dizzy as I was yesterday. I don't feel like I'm going to fall over if I bend over. WOO! Improvement!

Lesson #451 - No Bath Toys with Holes

What an unfortunate series of events!!

Our kids love rubber ducks. Zoey especially loves when we spray water in her mouth from them.

Early this week, we had to bid our favorite Mama Giraffe and Mama Monkey farewell due to a mold issue.

Now we have lost our favorite duck.

Moral of the story: no matter how well you rinse out your holed bath toys, you will NEVER get all the water out. Unless you want to boil them with bleach about once every other week, it's not going to be pretty:

This was AFTER rinsing it with bleach for 5 minutes.

SO, we have a new rule in our household:

NO BATHTOYS WITH HOLES ALLOWED!

This is kind of like the "no boys allowed" club house, only...we mean it this time. The mere thought of this yuck going into my kids' mouths? Eek.

And for those wondering...yes, we boil/bleached our toys about once a month. Not fun, but we did. Sadly, that didn't stop it.

Well, that's Unfortunate!

Unfortunately for ME, I can't complete last weekend's upload because I forgot to make low-res copies of them. Oops. Well, later then.

It's NOT unfortunate for YOU before you get to see the Oscar pictures!

Here were our contributions:

Zoey, as Giselle from the movie Enchanted.

Trav as Robert Downey's character in Tropic Thunder.

Jack as a creative interpretation of Bolt!

We had tons of fun, though Zoey wasn't really in the smiling mood:

There we go!

Where's the princess?

Grandma Suzie and Papa Don were...Batman and the Joker. (The Joker came in first place, if I recall correctly!)

Cousin Audrey was...Kung Fu Lion. ROAR! This was her first pizza, and she really enjoyed it.

Athena (not pictured) came as the Speed Racer. Jack was soon the Speed Racer named Bolt.

Mmmmm. Popcorn.

Jack was a great big brother. He even wiped Zoey's face!

And proved to be the true joker of the bunch.

Audrey was amused!

The girls spend some time, albeit brief time, together.
